Earth Day 5K: Castleton University

By Tiffany Saltis, PWW Intern

Get your sneakers ready because Castleton University will be hosting the annual Back to the Earth 5k Trail Run & Walk! The run/walk will take place on April 20th to wrap up Earth Week. The run/walk benefits Pure Water for the World and brings safe water programs to children and families in underserved communities of Honduras and Haiti.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Stephanie Van Fleet, of the Castleton Student Athlete Advisory Committee, to see if she could share an overview about the event with others.

Q: How many years has Castleton hosted the Back to the Earth 5k?

A: This is the third year Castleton has hosted the Back to the Earth 5K.  Usually it is put on by an event management class but this year it is being run by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Q: Why did Castleton select Pure Water for the World (PWW) as the beneficiary of this event?

A: We picked PWW because it is a local charity that benefits a very good cause.

Q: What would you tell students and community members to inspire them to participate?

A: I would tell them that this race is a great way to get outside after this rough winter and support a great charity.  If they wanted to participate in the race it is Friday, April 20th and starts at 4:30pm.

Students and community members of all ages are encouraged to participate. Walk or run, we are all equally taking steps towards a greener future. We look forward to seeing you out there!
